End of first day

map-icon

Day one is now over and we got safely back to the campsite. After the excitement of the escaping trailer this morning, this afternoon saw a broken windscreen on the Mk1 Mini belonging to our support van driver (the van joins us tomorrow when we leave Devon for the last time this week). We managed to remove all the broken glass, and then he drove the best part of 30-40 miles with no screen.  Good thing the weather has been holding today.

Tomorrow is an early start as we start North.

Lands End

map-icon

At Lands End in time for lunch. It’s been a mildly eventful drive so far.  The lead car’s trailer made a bid for freedom less than a mile out from the campsite.  Fortunately Jock Jnr just went into a hedge on the opposite site of the road.

Technically we’re now at the start. All uphill from here 🙂

Number 5 is alive

map-icon

To slightly misquote from Good Morning Vietnam, it’s 06:30, and what does the ‘O’ stand for…

We’ve got our run order positions, and in this year’s more bijou grouping, we’re 5 of 7 Minis. And in a change to the standard plans,  rather than heading into Bideford for Morrisons breakfast and a 9 am kick off, we’re leaving the campsite at 07:30 and starting the south westerly way into Cornwall, aiming for Bude (and Morrisons and breakfast – some things don’t change).

The auto map updates will start again once we’re on the move after a day off yesterday.

And guess what – it was another windy night again – but we are all still here.

The morning after the night before

map-icon

Just like last year, it was a bit windy for the first pre-run night. Still we knew the tent could cope.  Plus,  having given up on inflatable bedding and now on a couple of Thermarests and ‘bed in a bag’ futons,  it was nice and comfy.

Now awaiting delivery of our first Morrisons breakfast of the trip, and the arrival of the remaining team members.  After that its off to visit Little Bridge House, part of Children’s Hospice South West.

At the camp site

We’ve made it to the camp site and got the tent up in one of the lulls in the weather.

Now just chilling out.

And were off…

We’ve now packed the car, said goodbye to the cat, handed the house over to Yudit’s mum for a week.

Away we go.

LEJOG 2013 – more details

map-iconThis year we’re going to try to make use of clever technology and have a map displaying our location and where we’ve been so far. This won’t get published until we’re on our way.

LEJOG 2013

Hello,

It’s that time of year again. We’re preparing for LEJOG 2013 and, as always, are looking for sponsorship both for the Childrens Hospice South West and for the 1st Marlow Bottom Scout Group. The event is organised by the North Devon Mini Register (www.smallcarsbighearts.co.uk).

Well – we’re again taking part and are again looking for generous souls to give us a donation. Anyone willing to donate to the hospice charity can do so via our JustGiving page (http://www.justgiving.com/Matt-Treml-LEJOG2013), or via JustTextGiving (text “MTLJ47 £amount” to 70070). If you’d like to donate to the Scouts you’ll need to get in touch since that would have to be via the old-fashioned method of cheques.

As with last year, we’ll be updating this site with progress during the event and there are further details on our JustGiving page on what the event is all about.

R.I.P. Squeak

It is with sadness that we announce the loss of our first “baby”. Squeak had been unwell for some time, and finally slipped away on Thursday 7th February.

He was around 13½ years old, which is a very good age for a snow morph of the corn snake, and we hope that he had a good life with us.
