Meep

Salutations! I’m Meep and I live with MattYudit, Sky, and Boo. I’m a striped corn snake – Elaphe guttata. I was born in July 2003, so I’ve now made it to adulthood.

I eat a couple of adult mice once a fortnight. I’ve grown from only about 8 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide to a full size of about 4 feet long and 1/2 inch wide. I like to explore, and I have lots of places to do so in my vivarium. I can be quite a “handfull” for Matt and Yudit when they try to keep hold of me.

Come back again soon for further developments…

A note on etymology

For those who are curious as to the origin of my name – it (like Squeak’s) is derived from the words spoken by a character in a book. In my case, the books in question are the series of Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman. There is a rather cute baby gargoyle by the name of Goldie that is given to Abel, the Keeper of Mysteries (and brother of Cain, Keeper of Secrets). This gargoyle is seen to say only two things – urkle and meep. Since Urkle would be a very silly name, I’m called Meep.

Message from Matt and Yudit

Keeping snakes is a lot of fun and we would not be without Meep. However they are a commitment and you must only get a snake once you have spent time considering the fact that they have special requirements and that they can get very big. That being said, we wanted more reptiles, having already acquired Squeak. They can easily become addictive…
